2nd Grade: Grammar Frenzy

Hello there, my name is Chloe!

I’m a teacher in the making! I love making little arts and crafts so I decided to incorporate art into this educational activity in order to make it fun and engaging!

The learning goal of this activity is to be able to demonstrate standard English grammar usage by creating sentences that are grammatically correct.

This will meet the Arizona Common Core standard 2.L.1, by teaching students to demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.

What you will need:

● Provided template

● Piece of cardboard

● Clear tape

● Glue

● Scissors

● String/yarn ● Pencil

  • 3 pieces of construction paper (any colors)
  • Scissors
  • Tape
  • Markers or Crayons

Directions:

  1. Create your pair of dice by drawing the figure of squares drawn on my paper, remember to do this on 2 papers because you will need two dice.

2. Cut out your dice shape out and write down the following grammar principles on one of your dice and be sure to write only one on each face… noun, verb, adjective, comma, plural noun and contraction.

  • Then write down a topic on each face of your other dice template, these can be any topic such as weather or cars.

3. Fold your dice on the lines and tape it together with tape on the outside of the dice, you can also decorate them however you would like.

4. Roll your dice and create your sentence using what you landed on, after you create your sentence write it down on your third piece of construction paper.

5. Keep rolling your dice until you have created around 10 sentences or you can keep repeating the process to get more practice.

Result: Students practice forming and writing down sentences in order to advance their grammar skills and are also left with a fun game that they can play multiple times after this activity to practice as much as they need to.
